Marina never thought that she would enjoy sitting up there at the cranes. She didn’t really like heights and the place was huge. She never thought she would end up working at the factory at all.

When she started looking for a job first time it was when she started college and needed the money. There were some nice places to work at in the small city, usually it was restaurants and bars for the girls. She found work at a small bakery that was planning on expanding into coffee. She did what she was told and worked at the counter, served the customers first with muffins and scones then coffee came and she learnt about brewing coffee.

Then money simply dried up, her mother said there was nothing they could do, so Marina went to the manager and said she wanted more hours. She never really knew much about investments and funds and did not like college anyway. She wanted to start her real life. So she needed full-time work. But it was too much food somehow.

The town and the factory was getting bigger, too. They were getting into car production and from one day to another a new building was getting erected, a big metal building. After manufacturing assembly was moving here, too, and there was need for more workers, team members for the production line.

The bakery offered deliveries and Marina had her chance to deliver coffee and muffins to the car plant. She felt intimidated when she entered the big new steel building for the first time. Then elation came. Those huge constructions, that great machinery! The space was formidable with a span reaching over 200 feet. She was later told that it was a prefab metal building, built from pre-engineered parts. Marina finally understood how it was erected so fast.

It was the first time in her life she felt so at home! One thing she never got used to at the bakery was those masses of people she had to see every day. And the constant smell of food. Here at the car plant there was hardly so many people. And the vast space! Marina made up her mind for the next day. She went and applied for a position at the factory. She wanted to work there. Where there are nobody to serve only the machinery and cars getting assembled. The big cranes and no smell of food.

In that big industrial steel building she felt totally at peace with herself and the world. She thought that not everybody needs to go to college and especially not her!
